Hiking – great fun!

I, recently, went hiking with my husband.  At first I wasn’t sure if I could climb a height of almost 3400 ft. This hike, Edmonds Backcountry Trail,  is considered difficult and challenging.  And, that  bit of information made me a bit nervous.  Although I consider myself fit, I wasn’t sure.

One of the waterfalls we saw during the hike

Our climb was at a steady pace.  We kept on it.  We stopped and rested for a few minutes every hour.  So it was nice.  We stopped by beautiful waterfalls.  Checked out the flowers.

This unique flower I saw on the mountains. This was closer to the top of our climb.

It took us a good four hours to get to the top.  Once on top we enjoyed the breathtaking views of the mountains.  Weather was great, and we enjoyed our picnic.  We re-fueled; and soaked in the beautiful views.

Up on top! The view was breathtaking!

Another view of the vastness of these mountains. Earth is truly beautiful!

It was time to descend.  I just did not want to leave this beautiful sight!  We packed up, and made our way down.  This trail was a loop trail.  We climbed from the West loop and descended from the East loop.  I decided this path for us after reading reviews from other climbers.  Most suggested taking West loop to ascend.  West Loop being steeper and harder; it’s better to climb in this direction to start hiking; energy level is at a high and the climb is more manageable.  Glad I read the reviews.  Coming down was a bit flatter and not as rocky as the West.

Descending. These trees made a canopy.

We were finally at the bottom…took us about 3-hours.  This was a great hike.  We really loved it.  But, my legs really hated me. I massaged them once I got home.  I was surprised though, that my energy level was still on the high.  So, I took Sir Thomas, our beagle, for his 2-mile walk.

Hiking

Oh Sir Thomas…must you? He did! Marked it.

My walk with Sir Thomas went well.  After, I had a big meal and turned into a couch potato for the rest of the evening. 🙂  What I loved about the hike was that it was challenging, exciting, and above all, the view on top made it all worth our while.  The effort required to make the climb was a total body workout!
